Villagers and Officials Confront Tree Destruction Near University

Silchar: Reports have surfaced alleging that unidentified armed individuals are responsible for the large-scale destruction of trees near Assam University, Silchar.

The university is surrounded by forests that are home to numerous endangered animals and birds.

Assam University’s nearby Area is witnessing unexpected mass deforestation which may affect the local biodiversity.

According to the Reports it is expected that approximately 35% of the forest has been destroyed by the miscreants so far.

In a recent development, a python was rescued from the Assam University campus, underscoring the area’s ecological importance.

On Friday, Local villagers from Irongmara, Dargakona and officials from the District Forest Department came together for a meeting in front of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science at Assam University.

Environmentalists, ecologists, and university students expressed their serious concerns over the rampant tree destruction.
