Silchar: A major announcement in the budget includes an allocation of Rs 700 crore for the construction of a flyover in Silchar. This project aims to address severe traffic congestion in Silchar town, enhancing urban mobility and ensuring smoother traffic flow in the valley.
Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented the state budget for the financial year 2025, highlighting key infrastructure developments. According to reports, Assam received Rs 18,500 crore under the capital expenditure category in the previous year.
Barak Valley’s Long Wait Ends: ₹700 Cr Flyover Approved for Silchar
The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in boosting economic growth in Barak Valley. By approving this long-awaited infrastructure project, the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government has fulfilled a significant demand of the Barak Valley.
Reacting to the announcement, Minister Kaushik Rai took to X (formerly Twitter) and described the project as a “historic gift for Barak Valley.”
Additionally, Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced plans to establish new industrial parks in major cities of Assam. She mentioned that the parks will be built in Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Silchar, Jagiroad, Palashbari, Tezpur, and Nalbari. According to the state finance minister, the parks will be equipped with top-class industrial facilities, depending on land availability.
She also mentioned that these industrial projects will be carried out in phases and will be constructed with a budget of Rs 500 crore.
