Water Level Rises Rapidly at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar Amidst Rain

Silchar: Water Level of the river Barak at Gauge site Annapurna ghat, Silchar with a rainfall of 24.60 and progressive rainfall of 612.20mm as of 10PM 30th May 2025. The water level is rising as reported with 13.65 metre and 30 cm difference to previous 9PM water level of 13.35m and 24cm difference water level at Annapurna ghat, Silchar.

IMD predicted heavy rainfall in three districts of Barak Valley from 28th to 30th May 2025. Red and Orange rainfall alert was issued with a heavy rainfall prediction in Sribhumi, Cachar and Hailakandi district followed by thundershowers and strong winds. IMD advised people to stay alert and stay vigilant by staying indoors untill necessary.

Cachar district located in southermost part of Assam with a geographical area of 3786 Square Km. The climate of Cachar district is Tropical wet with hot and wet summers and cool winters and receives an anual average rainfall of more than 3000mm. The climate of Cachar is responsible for humidity that makes summer intolerable. Cachar district is surrounded by Mizoram on the south and Barail and Jayantia hill ranges on the north.
