Silchar: Members of the Cachar District Congress, led by President Abhijit Pal, staged a protest at the Public Health Engineering (PHE) in Silchar Division office on Tuesday.
The demonstration was held in response to the ongoing issue of contaminated drinking water affecting residents of Padmanagar area in Bilpar, Silchar.
For several days, residents have been struggling with severely polluted drinking water. They have repeatedly complained that the water supplied by the Silchar Municipality is black, contaminated, and unfit for use.
Despite multiple grievances, authorities have failed to take necessary action.
Dirty Drinking Water Sparks Congress Protest in Silchar
According to reports, many residents have fallen ill due to the poor water quality, raising serious health concerns across Silchar.
District Congress President Abhijit Pal criticized the authorities for their inaction. President Pal stated that despite repeated complaints, no preventive measures have been implemented.
To address the crisis, Congress members, under President Pal’s leadership, organized a gherao at the PHE office, demanding immediate intervention.
Local residents are now urging PHE officials to ensure the supply of safe drinking water and take swift measures to resolve the water crisis.
