Cachar District Administration Deploys Pumps Amid Flooding in Silchar

Silchar: On Sunday, 1st June, the District Administration of Cachar installed a 50 HP pump at the Banglaghat Sluice Gate to drain out the stagnant floodwater from Silchar town. Plans are also underway to install additional pumps to further manage the situation.

As of 5:00 AM on 2nd June, the water level of the Barak River at Annapurna Ghat in Silchar had risen to 21.18 meters, water level increase has been slowed down. As of 4:00 AM on 2nd June, the water level of the Barak River at Annapurna Ghat in Silchar had risen to 21.17 meters by crossing the danger level of 19.83 meters, which it crossed on Sunday, 1st June. At 10:00 PM on the same day, the recorded water level at Annapurna Ghat was 21.11 meters.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Silchar received exceptionally heavy rainfall of over 400 mm in the 24 hours till 0830hrs IST on 1st June 2025. On Sunday, 1st June, highest temperature recorded is 28 degree and minimum temperature of 24 degree with a relative humidity of 98%.

Meanwhile, some reports claims that the VIP Road from Udharbond to Silchar (airport road) has been completely closed due to flooding. Waterlogging has also been reported on the road near Aruna Tea Estate, en route to Silchar Airport, and near Khaspur Tea Estate in Cachar. Many houses in Sadarghat, Silchar has been submerged in flood water.
