Dipayan Chakraborty Inaugurates Blood Component Unit in Silchar

Silchar: MLA Dipayan Chakraborty inaugurated the advanced blood component separation unit at SM Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar. It is a significant step in enhancing the healthcare services in Barak Valley.

During the inauguration, MLA Chakraborty highlighted the transformative changes in Assam’s healthcare sector under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He stated, “Under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, the healthcare landscape of Assam is witnessing an unprecedented transformation. The blood component separation unit is a testament to his commitment towards ensuring advanced and accessible medical services to every citizen. It will ensure that every drop of donated blood is used to its fullest potential, saving multiple lives.”

Advanced Blood Component Unit Inaugurated at Civil Hospital Silchar

Adding to the achievement, SM Dev Civil Hospital has also been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), further enhancing the hospital’s credibility.

The newly inaugurated unit adheres to strict storage protocols to maintain the efficacy of blood components. Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC) can now be stored for up to 45 days at 2 to 8°C, platelets for 5 days at 22 to 24°C, and Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) and cryoprecipitate for up to one year at -40°C to -80°C.

Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, emphasized the critical role of voluntary blood donation and the technical advancements of the new unit in improving patient care.

Previously, patients in SM Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar relied solely on whole blood transfusions, which were not always the most effective option. With the introduction of specialized blood components like PRBC, platelets, FFP, and cryoprecipitate, the hospital now offers targeted treatments that significantly improve patient recovery outcomes.

The new facility is expected to bolster healthcare services in Barak Valley, making advanced medical treatments more accessible to the public.
