Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is a month of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and community service. Fasting during Ramadan is obligatory for all adult Muslims, who abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset. The pre-dawn meal is called suhur, and the meal that breaks the fast at sunset is known as iftar.

Additionally, Muslims living in regions with a midnight sun or polar night follow the timetable of Mecca, where the day and night cycle is distinguishable.

As Ramadan begins, Muslims around the world come together to observe this sacred month, commemorating the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
