Silchar: The first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup was played in 1973, two years prior to the men’s limited overs world cup played in 1975. The inaugural Womens Cricket World Cup held in England from 20th June to 28th July’73. The first Women’s Cricket World Cup is inspired by businessman Sir Jack Hayward as he contributed £40,000 for it.
The list of team played in the first-ever Women’s World Cup are England, Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica. Later, an International XI and Young England team joined in a round-robin league. The team with the most point wins the first-ever Women’s World Cup.

The runner-up team Australia fall short to reach the target by scoring 187/9 with Englands super tight bowling. Princess Anne handed over the World Cup to winning England team at a reception hosted at 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister Edward Heath.
Captain Enid Bakewell becomes the top scorer of the tournament 1973 with 264 runs and Rosalind Heggs the top wicket taker with 12 wickets.
