A Businessman, Niti Ranjan Paul Died in the Maha Kumbh Stampede

Silchar: Niti Ranjan Paul, a Hailakandi Businessman Dies in the tragic Maha Kumbh stampede in Uttar Pradesh. He was the owner of the popular shop Om Sweets located in Hailakandi. The incident took place during the Mauni Amavasya holy dip at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

According to some reports, Paul was immediately rushed to the ICU but succumbed to his injuries. On January 29, his family faced difficulties in obtaining a death certificate, with authorities allegedly refusing to issue the document.

Paul was a respected and well-known personality in Hailakandi’s business community. He had traveled to Prayagraj to participate in the Kumbh Mela, a significant Hindu pilgrimage that takes place four times over 12 years, rotating across four sacred river locations:

  • Haridwar, Uttarakhand – Banks of the Ganges
  • Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – Banks of the Shipra
  • Nashik, Maharashtra – Banks of the Godavari
  • Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – Confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati

The Maha Kumbh stampede has claimed at least 30 lives so far. In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry into the tragic incident.
