Guardian Minister Participates in Zonal Jhumur Dance Training Camp as Assam Gears for Cultural Showcase
Silchar: The Town Club in Silchar turned into a cultural centre as Jayanta Mallabaruah, the Guardian Minister of Cachar and Minister for PHE, Housing and Urban Affairs, attended the Zonal Jhumur Dance Training Camp. He was joined by Kaushik Rai, Minister for Food Public Distribution, Mines and Minerals, and Minister of Barak Valley Development, along with Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA of Silchar, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, and SP Cachar Numal Mahatto.
The training camp saw participants from Cachar, Hailakandi, and Sribhumi (Karimganj) districts showcasing their unique talents and skills. These participants have been rehearsing for the grand Jhumur Binandini program, which is scheduled at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on 24th of February, 2025.
A total of 180 participants from Cachar, 102 from Hailakandi, and 64 from Sribhumi will perform in the Mega Jhumur Dance Performance at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati. The Cachar contingent includes 100 dancers, 67 instrumentalists, and 13 master trainers. From Hailakandi, 20 dancers, 76 instrumentalists, and 6 master trainers will participate, while Sribhumi’s group will consist of 20 dancers, 37 instrumentalists, and 7 master trainers.
Jhumur Dance Rehearsals in Silchar: Minister Mallabaruah Boosts Spirit Ahead of Guwahati Event
The Jhumur Dance is a unique art form that symbolizes Assam’s cultural tradition. Minister Mallabaruah actively participated in the rehearsal, energizing the participants and highlighting the unity and enthusiasm surrounding the event. His involvement further inspired the dancers and musicians, boosting their dedication ahead of the grand performance in Guwahati.
Speaking to the media, Minister Mallabaruah praised the participants’ talent and commitment to preserving Assam’s traditional culture. He said, “Jhumur dance is not only an artistic expression but also a reflection of our traditions and unity. It is truly heartening to witness such dedication from our youth. I am confident that their performance at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati will leave a lasting impression. Our government is fully committed to promoting and preserving our rich cultural heritage.”

Assam is gearing up for two major events at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. The Grand Jhumur Dance Performance and the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend and grace both events on 24th and 25th of February, 2025.
