MTOA halts Operation on Aizawl to Silchar National Highway
The Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association stopped transporting essential items and commodities due of poor road conditions of Aizawl to Silchar National Highway and demands immediate repair of the NH road.
Silchar: The Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association stopped operations on the Aizawl to Silchar National Highway because of poor road conditions. On Thursday morning at 7am, the Association halted the transport of essential goods, commodities, and construction materials to draw attention to the poor condition of the road that connects Mizoram with Assam.
Mizoram Truck Owners’ Association General Secretary, Dina Tlau, said the protest was meant to highlight the poor condition of the national highway and demand urgent repairs. However, officials confirmed that oil tankers and trucks carrying cooking gas are still operating.

Further, MTOA General Secretary Dina Tlau pointed out that the road from Aizawl to Silchar, especially the section from Kawnpui to Khamrang/Sairang, was badly damaged during last year’s monsoon. Since then, no important repairs have been done.
Dina Tlau claims that even though the state government and other authorities promised repairs would be done during the winter, no action has been taken so far.

The poor road condition of the Aizawl to Silchar National Highway has affected truck owners and drivers heavily from using it, specially trucks bringing in essential goods and items from outside of the state.
Mizoram Trippers’ Association, Kolasib District Trippers’ Association, Truck Owners’ and Drivers in Kolasib and Kawnpui towns have supported the ongoing strike,making the protest even stronger.
