Silchar: Minister Kaushik Rai announced in a press release on Thursday that the construction of the much-awaited Silchar Flyover will take place in phases.
According to minister Rai, preliminary work for the flyover will begin in next three months.
Minister Rai recalled that during the Silchar Municipality Election in February 2015, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised to construct a flyover to reduce traffic congestion in Silchar. After winning the election, the party has been working towards fulfilling this commitment.
He also mentioned that the next Silchar Municipality Election could happen anytime soon.
Highlighting the need for the flyover, Minister Rai stated that traffic congestion remains a significant issue in Silchar. The flyover project is essential for easing the traffic flow in the valley.
He further informed that the planning details for the flyover have been presented at the DC Office in Cachar.
Silchar Flyover Work to Begin in Three Months: Minister Rai
To advance the project, discussions have been held with key dignitaries, including Minister Krishnendu Paul and Udharbond MLA, regarding the construction.
The Government of Assam has allocated Rs 700 crore for the Flyover project in the Assam Budget 2025. It reinforces the state’s commitment to infrastructure development in Barak Valley.
Also, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Barak Valley on March 18, 2025.
Minister Rai reiterated that the construction of the flyover is crucial for addressing traffic congestion across Barak Valley. He emphasized the government’s dedication to improving urban infrastructure in the valley.
