Silchar: The bloodstained history of May 19 Bhasha Shahid Diwas is not just a reminder of Barak Valley’s identity, but also a history of pride and dignity. On this day in 1961, eleven brave souls sacrificed their lives in Police firing at Tarapur Railway Station, Silchar. It is because of their supreme sacrifice that we are able to express ourselves in our mother tongue today.
19th May stands as a beacon for all communities of Barak Valley. Regardless of caste, creed, or religion, uniting them in the defense of all cultural heritage and linguistic rights.
In commemoration of this historic day, ‘Voice of Barak’ is organizing a grand rally on 16th May 2025. Grand Rally has been organised across Barak Valley’s three district: Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj on the eve of May 19 Bhasha Shahid Diwas.
In Silchar, the rally will commence at 3:00 PM from the foot of the Netaji statue and will proceed through major roads of the town, concluding at Gandhibag. Similar rallies will be held simultaneously in Hailakandi and Karimganj.
You, along with your family, friends, and members of any organization you’re associated with, are cordially invited to join this grand rally. We urge people from all linguistic communities of Barak Valley to come together in solidarity.
Let us all unite to make the Grand Rally of May 16, 2025 a resounding success in memory of the eleven martyrs.
